Hello from the muddiest I’ve been in quite awhile. I just got back from the bio-preserve (what? Jill’s posting a blog before nightfall? Nonsense!) and I’m kinda caked in dirt. The weather has decided it really enjoys having rain on Friday mornings so the forest was a little squishy. It wouldn’t have been that bad if our observation route didn’t take us through this little mud pit: It may not look steep, but it’s a bit of a hassle trekking up the sides on ground that only looks kinda firm. The return trip made me feel a little like Shadow from ‘Homeward Bound’ (not that the majority of you have even seen that movie :P) with all the slipping and sliding around when attempting to get up the embankment. Here’s a small sample of how muddy my boots got, but keep in mind that this was only halfway through the excursion: I think it’s laughing at me Although we did see some chickadees today, they didn’t stick around for very long. Like I said before, I think they like to tease me. As Sara already mentioned, the Border Brawl was last Saturday. It was a lot of fun! I didn’t do too badly. I won some bouts and lost a lot more. My favorite was definitely my direct elimination epee bout with Nick, though. He’s the president of MTSU’s fencing club. I ended up losing, but not before tying the score 9-9 (Not to mention I was beating him for at least half the match) It was pretty awesome. After the Border Brawl and eating at Cheddars (where, as Sara mentioned, Alex and Nick thoroughly entertained us) my mom and I went back to Western to watch the end of the indoor drumline competition that had been going on all day. It was pretty cool. The last one we stayed for was easily the best of the night. I don’t remember which school it was, but they had a tribal theme and it was completely epic. That’s the best I can do to describe it. Other than this morning and the end of yesterday, the weather has been amazing. That coupled with the beautiful blooming trees in front of DUC make the walk to class not too bad. And I also want to include this picture for no other reason than that I thought it was really cool. They were all over campus for a few days. And to continue the theme of the title of this blog, I’m going to see the Hunger Games movie tonight!!! (with Sara, Amy, and maybe Nayab, of course). Woot! I’m excited :D I really hope isn’t a let down from the books. I know they always have to make changes when adapting to film, but I really want it turn out well *coughunlikeeragoncough* And since I’m talking about it, I may as well mention the two hunger games themed stories of the week. In ASL, the teacher called for a volunteer and one of the girls hopped up and loudly said, “I volunteer as tribute!” I cracked up! And also, when coming back to the dorm from fencing practice, I heard someone doing Rue’s whistle in the stairwell. Amy got excited thinking Rachael was somehow back from New Zealand. That’s basically all I have to say about this week. So I’ll leave you with something both awesome and reminiscent of our childhood: Now off to shower-land!
-Jill Hello from another normal Friday night.
Since my last blog, I’ve returned to Bowling Green and school (blech), but not before going to service at the church I’d been helping out with over spring break. Sojourn Moorhead (the name of the church we were working with, which I think I failed to mention before) meets in a Warming House (which is just a building in parks where people can relax and warm up after skating or playing in the snow) down the street from John’s house (the church planter/current leader of Sojourn Moorhead). The church is still pretty small but we did get three visitors which was awesome. One was a guy we met while working the table at MSUM :) That weekend started their spring break, so we didn’t figure we’d have very many students show up, but hopefully some will check the church out in later weeks. Several sounded very interested when we talked to them. After church we had a quick lunch, said good bye to everyone, and headed home. And I just have to say that night flights are so much prettier than day flights. Leaving from our layover in O’hare, the ground looked like it had veins of light and sparkles. I thought it was pretty neat. I did want to mention one thing I found very frustrating about Saturday, but doesn’t really have much to do with the trip overall, lol. We were walking around one of the neighborhoods when all of a sudden I start hearing chickadees! (In case you don’t remember, they are the birds Amy and I are studying for our Ecology class). All I could think was, “NO! You aren’t supposed to be here! You’re supposed to be at the Bio-preserve so I can actually study you! Why do you show up now, but not when I have binoculars and data sheets!” lol. Speaking of chickadees, we failed to see any again today. Because it was storming this morning I didn’t even get to go out to the preserve, but I did go with Amy to her study site (a local park). After an hour of observing, we hadn’t seen any chickadees, but we did see an owl, several cardinals, and some bird I think might have been some kind of sparrow. Whatever, it was brown and speckled. I did have fun watching a cardinal up close for several minutes, though. It was cool actually getting to see it call and feed. And since it wasn’t actually my study site and I just drove Amy there, I was free to mostly do what I wanted anyway. Oh, and guess what? As soon as we started heading toward the car and were finished with the observation, we start hearing a chickadee call. It’s like they enjoy teasing us. There’s no transition here, but I got to see Sanaa yesterday! Amy, Sara, Nayab, Kit, Kit’s boyfriend, Sanaa, and I all went out to eat at Gatti’s and hang out for a bit. Woot friendship time! Oh spring break, how you bring friends together :) Hey Sanaa, if you’re reading this you should consider doing blogs every now and then. Pretty please, maybe? Other than that, it’s basically just been a regular week with highs (getting to have class outside) and lows (having an ecology test last 3 ½ hours). And I kinda miss Fargo. Something kinda funny: I walked out of the dorm first thing Monday morning into a complete downpour of rain and my first thought was, *sigh*”I miss Fargo.” Wish me luck in the Fencing Border Brawl tomorrow! Love, Jill Hello from Fargo, North Dakota! It’s know around here as the City of Parks, none of which you would want to currently visit since it’s freezing outside. At the moment it’s actually quite warm compared to the rest of the week at 31 degrees. When I woke up this morning, it was 12 degrees but with the wind-chill it felt like -2. Great place to spend spring break, right? But really, I’ve had an awesome time this week and it’s hard to believe it’s almost over and I’ll be going home in two days. I’ll try to give you the best overview of the week I can, but expect it to be pretty rambly. It’s late and I’m tired. In case I failed to mention it adequately before, I spent this last week in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota on a mission trip with my church. Our two main goals were 1) basically to be an advertisement for the church plant that started in Moorhead in August as well as the church plant that started a few years back in Fargo and 2) to try to create relationships with the people we meet here. The idea, particularly for the summer teams that live here for a couple of months, is to ‘live strategically’ aka be intentional with the conversations you have with people, go out of your way to be nice and have conversations with people-get to know them, see if they go to a church in town, etc. I’m probably doing a horrible job explaining it, but whatever. Mostly, we just got to know people in town, specifically at MSUM (Minnesota State University at Moorhead), and hung up flyers for the church around town. As far as my week goes: I woke up at 5 o’clock Monday morning to meet up with everyone at the church. We had a flight to catch out of Nashville at 8 with a two-hour layover in Denver. Easily the most eventful part of our the trip was freaking out when the car right behind us started swerving, spun around, hit the embankment, and flipped. It was surreal to watch. Luckily the ambulance was really quick. We tried to look up an article about the wreck later to find out if the guy was ok, and as far as we could tell, he was alive. So…that’s good. Anyway, back to the trip. I traveled through 4 states in 24 hours, which is not nearly as impressive as the fact that I traveled through 3 cities and 2 states in under 10 minutes. The church we’re staying at (called Temple Baptist [which is not the church we’re here to serve which is Sojourn] which is also really nice [did you manage to understand that with all the ‘which is’s lol]) is in Fargo, North Dakota. The area we’re mainly working in is Moorhead, Minnesota. And the closest Wal-Mart where we did our week’s grocery shopping is in Dilworth, Minnesota. Fargo and Moorhead are basically the same city divided by a river which creates the dividing line for the two states. If you don’t get it, look at a map. Most mornings we go to MSUM. We have a table set up to offer hot chocolate in the Student Union (equivalent to DUC) and also set up a Raffle to win an ipod shuffle. It’s mostly just a way to get word out to the students that the church exists, and it’s a method to get a chance to talk to them. A lot of people ignored us but we did get a chance to meet a lot of people and have good conversations. It was kinda crasy today seeing God work. MSUM’s spring break is next week so the Student Union was basically empty the majority of the morning and most people had left or were about to leave. But there were a few people still interested in our table. Near the end of our time there, a group of girls came up and sign up for the raffle. We were nearly done and about to clean up, but we kept talking to them and they seemed really eager about the church, and I’m pretty sure we’ll see them there this Sunday :) We also have lunch at MSUM everyday to try to get to know the students. Another girl on the trip with me, Cara, found a group of three girls to sit with in the cafeteria. We ended up talking about The Hunger Games, differences between MSUM and Western, etc. They’re pretty awesome. One of them added me on Facebook. We got to hang out with them a little later at the University Bookstore and the next day at lunch as well. Most afternoons we tape up cards to houses in the surrounding neighborhoods with info on the church and its upcoming events. Did I mention the temperature here? How about the snow? Take a look at these: This is actually pretty low on the snow level here. It’s about 6 inches, but the norm is more like 6 feet. It’s been really weird because I’m so used to snow melting by the next day, but it’s always still there, and usually there’s more and more of it. Our first day of doing cards was actually the warmest at just above freezing, which you would think is a good thing but actually led to one of the worst parts of the trip. At the intersections of sidewalk to street, you had 2 options for crossing to the next sidewalk: climb a giant snow pile or wade through 6 inch puddles that look frozen over but aren’t and are too wide to jump across. As a result, my feet, as well as the majority of the team’s, were soaked. With freezing water. Did I mention soaked? I had to walk around like that for an hour. I thought for sure I would get frostbite. Luckily, I warmed up pretty quickly, and the weather chilled enough that all the water on the sides of the streets is now frozen enough to not soak my feet completely. The walk back to the car on the first day was pretty funny because we came across a little girl walking home from school who yelled at us for not wearing boots. Overall the trip has been awesome, and part of that, at least for me, are always the little hilarious moments. For example, the table we have at MSUM: on the first day, we noticed we were basically between the meeting room for something called ‘The Gay Agenda’ and a hall that led to some kind of info session for Planned Parenthood. We had a little laugh out of that. And of course there’s this picture taken on our second day. I forget who wrote it, but I got a laugh out of it. And there are other things like the stealing and hiding of the vanilla coke, the threatening of infecting the perpetrator with bronchitis if they do not return the vanilla coke, the crazy sensitive shower knob in the tiny shower, beasting Andrew and Dillon at Phase 10, realizing Andrew bears an uncanny resemblance to Russel from UP, listening to Blake, Andrew, and Cara sing impromptu karaoke, I could go on for a while so I should probably cut it off here. My blog’s already thirty minutes late. (which there is a reason for by the way! The keys to one of our rental cars were mistakenly put in the backpack of someone not in our group at a coffee-shop we were hanging out at tonight…and they left. It took awhile to get that resolved) I’d love to video chat with you guys soon, it’d be much easier to tell some of these stories face to [screen to ] face. If I’ve forgotten anything worth mentioning, I’ll talk about it next week. But I do sorta have an ‘awesome’ of the week which, if you don’t count all the awesome ways God’s currently working in these cities, would have to be Scheels. It’s an outdoor sports shop and it’s HUGE. There’s even a Ferris Wheel inside: Cool, right?
Anyway, I’m tired and I’m gonna go to bed now. Love, Jill P.S. Hey, Anna Beth. You know those decorated pig statues in Bath? Apparently there’s an equivalent here in Fargo with Bison statues. I didn’t get any pictures of the statues themselves, but I did snap a shot of a framed picture at Dunn Bros Coffee Shop that shows a lot of them: Hello from Emerald City! (haha, Wizard of Oz Joke! What? Of course it’s funny! :P) More realistically, hello from the hallway of Minton where Amy and I are hunkering down/hanging out with some fellow students while a tornado comes to possibly kill us all. I don’t really know how bad it is. It looked really pretty outside not too long ago, but all the big sirens just went off, so we figured we may as well play it safe. From what I hear, it’s bad in some places. Some girls on my floor are watching images of trucks being blown off the road in Louisville. *Update: The lights above the football field are swaying really bad, so we moved to the stairwell. Here’s to hoping Bowling Green’s weather bubble protects us!* While I await my demise, I’ll tell you a little about my week. A new set of shouting ‘preachers’ were at DUC yesterday. They weren’t the same set of guys that occasionally yell at passing students, but I did hear a lot of yelling as I passed by and the inevitable crowd of people was assembled. This time a group of guys (I heard they were the swim team?) were out sunbathing in speedos right in front of the yelling couple. See what you’re missing Rachael and Anna Beth? Lol, jk. This week was pretty good…except that I had to wake up at 5:30 this morning! :( Today was my first true field observation for my Ecology class. My partner and I managed not to get lost on the hour-long trip up to the preserve. Unfortunately, I didn’t check the weather forecast. I had a jacket, but not a rain-jacket and it didn’t have a hood. I did at least have my hiking boots. It was just sprinkling rain when we arrived, so we waited for a lull then went down to the riverbed, whereupon the heavens opened up and I got soaked. We saw plenty of birds, just no Carolina Chickadees (our primary objective). The rain was on and off for the next hour as we walked around, and ultimately we didn’t really have anything to show for our trip. Hope week after next is sunnier and filled with more chickadees. We’ve moved on to studying bones in Anatomy, which is both more fun and, unfortunately, more work. I took some photos to help with studying: Fencing was fun Tuesday night (except for the fact that Sara and Kelsey abandoned me to be the only girl!) While Daniel and Stephen were off figuring out financial stuff for our new lockers and we were supposed to be practicing free fencing, EIther Chris or Cameron (can't remember who) had the brilliant idea of ‘realistic fencing’. It was sort of like a one-touch tournament, but head and heart shots were instant kills and no one calls halt until someone ‘dies’. Winner stays up and next in line joins the new fight instantly. It was really fun…until it got a little out of hand and Daniel told us to stop…..(we didn’t damage anything I promise!)
*Second update: We moved back to the hallway because things seem to be calming down and because the stairwell was way to warm and uncomfortable.* My ‘awesome’ pick of the week (which has basically turned into ‘what videos on YouTube did Jill find interesting this week?’) comes in two parts. Partly just because I wanted to and partly because saying that makes me feel more like John Green. Part 1: -Epic Rap Battle: Wright Brothers vs. Mario Brothers- Part 2: -Dancing and Violins- My passion for topic browsing YouTube has resurfaced this week and I may have spent too much time watching Speedpainting and So You Think You Can Dance videos, but I can save those for another week. Love, Jill P.S. I think we're going to make it. But if you don't hear from Amy on Monday, go ahead and assume the tornado got us....or that we ran away to Narnia. They're equally likely. P.P.S. Oh, and I read this...*cough*...all of it.... http://youtuberconfessions.tumblr.com/ Hello from Asbury!!! Yes, this Friday’s edition of the blog comes to you from the wonderful world of Shelby. Sara, Amy, and I drove up to surprise her for her birthday, and we succeeded. =] I’m currently listening to them talk about David Tennant and Catherine Tate (Shelby’s procrastinating on her homework, but I can’t really blame her. I keep being distracted from this as well. We just watched the Doctor’s last lines. David Tennant’s a really good actor). Anyway, back to writing. I had training for my Fargo trip last Sunday, as well as a free meal. Gotta love Free College Lunch Sundays. Amy and I, along with the rest of our Ecology class, drove up to the Bio-Preserve for our last practice-observation/logistics discussion before we start our actual data collection. Unfortunately it was incredibly windy and we didn’t see any chickadees, which is not something that makes us feel very good about our experiment. Hopefully that was just a fluke day and we’ll actually be able to observe the birds later on. Really the only animals we did see were four deer and SO MANY BABY COWS!!! I’m serious. The drive to and from the preserve is surrounded by cattle pastures in some parts, and apparently it’s calving season. One of them could not have been older than a day. It was also kinda weird how interested some of the older cows were with us. We stopped the van on the road to try a little practice bird watching, and all the cows just lined up by the fence: Aren’t they so cute?
Also, this is the last Friday I get sleep in. =[ The observation time slot I’ve been assigned has to start between 6-9 in the morning. And considering it takes an hour to get to the preserve…*sigh* I’ll miss waking up at 11 on Fridays… FYI, Sara just came out of the closet. No, literally, she came out of the closet. She was changing into her pjs. Amy wanted me to include it in the blog. Now Amy's about to come out of the closet, well, she’s having a little trouble coming out of the closet. I think she’s stuck. =] I guess I’ll end the blog around now so I can hang out with everyone. The Awesome this week, besides getting to see Shelby, is something that looks like an incredible amount of fun and comes from someone I just found (and started watching all the videos of) on YouTube. (If you guys get sick of how much I link to Youtube, just tell me) -World's Largest Rope Swing- Have an adventure-tastic weekend everybody! - Jill P.S. Shelby's singing "Colossions 1: The Musical" to us. I think it's gonna be a hit =] Hello from the end of my 6 hour long video chat with Anna Beth. What started as an awesome get together among many friends has ended with two distanced roommates just hanging out for a longer time than we expected. Not much has been going on this week really. My mom and I went to the rodeo Saturday night. Other that being completely frozen on the walk from the car, the event was pretty fun, although not quite as thrilling as previous years. We just happened to pick an off night. My car basically died Sunday, which was a bummer. We had to take poor Sadie to the doctor. Turned out the throttle sensor was malfunctioning and the car immediately turned itself off anytime I tried to put it in gear for safety reasons. But I got it back Tuesday and it wasn’t overwhelmingly expensive to fix, so all is well. I worked the 1040 café at church Sunday and the Mission Meal Wednesday to help raise some money for my upcoming trip. I’ll be working the 1040 café again this Sunday. I was more excited than I should have been that I sort of got to use YouTube to help write an essay for my history class. If you’re wondering, it was actually the video Sara linked to about Mesopotamia in her last blog. It was amusing because Amy looked over from her desk, saw me watching YouTube, asked “Aren’t you supposed to be doing your homework,” looked at the title of the video, and said, “oh, I guess you are doing your homework.” Huzzah for Crashcourse! I didn’t actually learn anything I hadn’t already learned from class, but it was a more entertaining way to review the material. :) My ‘something awesome’ of this week is not another video, although it is YouTube based. My ‘It’s Canada Outside’ hoodie finally came! (Thanks again Rachael and Anna Beth and anyone else who was involved in getting it for me!) I got it in the mail on Tuesday, so it doubled as both a Christmas and Valentine’s Day gift. And since my blogs just don’t feel quite complete unless I link to a video, here are some videos from the people that made the hoodie (Woot! ApprenticeA!):
-Most famous video- -My personal favorite- -Latest Vlog- Until next week, Jill :) Hello from lajsdksjdflsjdlffbNOWAYwofihsPANICdfhlihlsdhWHYMEfjskldhjflshdAHHHHdlkhjflskjdf This is the closest approximation I can give for what my mind was going through at about 9 o’clock tonight. Really Anna Beth and Rachael?? REALLY? Sara, Amy, and I completed the second letter challenge (I’ll talk more about that later) and we moved on to the third. So, to reiterate, kdjfldjahg;kjhdagjh;sdjhfg;shdfg;kjhdskjfgn;jfkgdjkjha;jfglskdjf;sjhagjlkhsdg…….. Lol, I wish someone had been filming our reactions. Sara and I were both surprised and not exactly ecstatic about the next task. So, ummm, if you guys happen to come home from study abroad and we’re still on the third letter, you’ll know why. For those that don’t know what we’re talking about, Anna Beth and Rachael left Amy, Sara, and I letters containing challenges before they left (we gave them some as well) that we had to complete. The first had Amy eat her first hamburger, the second made us travel to a haunted bridge, and the third asks Sara and I to make response videos to one of our favorite youtubers. *sigh* Although Amy did her best to make me believe this will lead to an awesome conversation between me and whatever youtuber I choose, I sill am not quite thrilled and think this can only lead to a lot of embarrassment. Oh well, I don’t want to back down from a challenge (though this does mean that I’m quite adamant about you completing a certain Ireland task, Anna Beth) so I guess I’ll do it, eventually….. As for my week, I think I have to keep it short. I only have 15 minutes to finish this blog before midnight. No, I didn’t just procrastinate again. I wanted to wait so I could include the video from our bridge trip tonight, which is right here: As far as how my week has been: Saturday was pretty fun. I got to see Amber and I won my first elimination match at the fencing tournament.....then lost the next to the top ranked fencer at the meet. The day was pretty fun all in all. I actually found out that the day after the tournament, one of the youtubers I watch occasionally was walking around, or at least near, Vanderbilt's campus! Apparently, he and the band he plays in are touring and had a three shows in Nashville. We were kinda in the same city for a while. Weird. On Wednesday, Amy and I went out with our class to the Bio Preserve to practice a bit of bird watching and set feeders. We'll be collecting data on Carolina Chickadees over the next few weeks to hopefully compile into a publish-worthy paper, which would be pretty awesome. But easily the weirdest part of the day was watching our professor make the weirdest sounds to attract birds. The guy has eyes like a hawk and kept pointing out species we never would have seen otherwise. We literally stopped on the country road where he jumped out then proceed to call and point out a mixed species flock of birds that were no more than four inches long. We also spotted a ton more animals. In order of appearance, they were: cows (obviously, we were out in the boonies), horses, sheep (a little less common), chickadees + other species I can't remember, deer (at least the professor spotted deer, I never did), a bald eagle (which was pretty awesome), a Great Blue Heron, a dog, and a lot more cows. Oh, and did I mention the road within the preserve to where we set up feeders is small, gravely, steep, and practically a death trap for some cars. And that Amy and I will be making this drive by ourselves every two weeks? Just thought I'd let you know. Thursday was the last time I saw Rachael before she left. :'( The girls in fencing all had a big group hug to say good-bye (yes, even me). Oh, and I'm treasurer now, which is kinda cool. Ok, I'm feeling kinda rambly now, so I'll end this with some awesome: - People can be pretty awesome. - Hello from off-campus land
It’s official. Amy is no longer an illegal alien residing in my room! She moved in yesterday so we are now legitimate roommates. It’s nice not having the responsibility of being the only one with a key to the room. All in all, it’s been a fairly uneventful week. One of the highlights of course was getting to video chat with Anna Beth and Shelby! We all need to find a time where we can chat in the Google+ hangouts in the next few weeks! The other interesting thing is that I just got back from turning in an application for a mission trip with the College ministry over spring break. (Thanks again, Shelby, for being one of my references!) So, hopefully I’ll be spending the beginning of March in the city of Fargo helping out businesses, building some relationships, and working with church planters who graduated from Western. I mentioned the trip to Sara last night, and she said something along the lines of, “you’re going to Fargo? Isn’t that in Scotland?” lol. Sadly, no. I will not be satisfying closer to Anna Beth. Instead I will be traveling to the far off, magical land of Fargo,…..North Dakota. Lol. Also, my first official fencing tournament is tomorrow (not counting the Border Brawl with MTSU last year). I’m quite excited, but I do not look forward to waking up at 6:30am. Ugh… But, yeah, that’s kinda all I have to talk about this week. I gotta run so I can go to dinner with my family for my mom’s birthday! So, my ‘awesome’ pick of the week is something I stumbled upon while spending too much time on YouTube (as is the norm). [Video Here] You guys can ignore the video that’s playing, the interesting bit is the first song that’s playing. It’s a cover of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream.’ It took me a little while into to the song to realize the band had changed the lyrics a little to something that I found much cuter and more awesome. Yeah, nothing overly awesome this week, I just wanted to share my little surprise from the other day. Short blog is short. _ Hello from Minton Hall! Amy just left for the weekend and Nayab went upstairs so I’m all alone at the moment. I had a relatively successful move-in on Saturday. I managed to move all the furniture around (I’ve kept my record of having a different room layout every semester so far) by myself and somewhat clean the room a bit. It’s surprising how dirty the floor was despite the inactivity over the past two-ish months. I say relatively successful because even though I got everything situated well enough, it wasn’t until late at night that I realized everything that I’d forgotten to pack including dish soap, an umbrella (I did at least have a raincoat which came in handy this week), the correct number of hangers, the hair ties that I bought last Friday because I keep losing mine, and, most importantly, a Pillow! I’ve been using the small decorative pillow for the past week instead. I’m planning on picking all this stuff up this weekend when I go home to do laundry. Here’s a nice little before/after picture of the room. Ignore the mess. It’s Friday. Cleaning is impossible on Friday. The important thing it was clean at one point and will probably be clean again soon. _ On Sunday I picked Amy up and we went to church. We met up with Sara and Rachael afterwards for some DDR (which I only partially failed at) at Amy’s house. And Anna Beth, be jealous: Amy’s cute little cousin was there. Mainly be jealous of Amy and Rachael since got hugs. After that we picked up some pizza and moved Amy’s stuff into the dorm even though she’s still not officially my roommate (just a technicality, still waiting on the actual email that says she can move in though she’s been staying in my room for the past week anyway).
Like Amy said, Rachael and I joined her and her family for Chinese New Year where we tried some new foods and learned a little bit of Chinese. By the way, Anna Beth, *puts on sunglasses to look more like a poker player* I see your eating of haggis with my first experience with tripe and raise you with Chinese fish noodles. Hehe. Oh, and I’m proud you’re finally doing your own laundry :-P lol jk Classes have been going pretty well this week. This semester I’m taking: -Ecocology (where it took us an hour into the second class to even start talking about Ecology, but it’s also the class that requires a field trip to either the Gulf Coast or the Appalachian Mountains for a full weekend! –awesomesause ) + Lab (which is only every other week but where we get to traipse around the preserve to collect data on birds and possibly write a publishing-worthy paper) - Anatomy and Physiology (where the professor helped us to remember the difference between supine and prone body positions by having a student demonstrate that Prone looks like Planking!) + Lab - Living in a Roman City (an Honors discussion based class where we at least in part talk about Roman city planning and where the professor momentarily interrupted the class to ask if anyone had ever thought of how they would choose to layout a city if the Zombie Apocalypse ever happened) - History 119 (where, after a question by a student was put forward, the professor had to admit historical feces was not his specialty but “The History of Poop” would be an awesome book) - American Sign Language 2 (where to review the basics of fingerspelling the alphabet and numbers, we searched YouTube for various songs to sign along to, including the Jackson 5’s ABC’s, Oscar Mayer’s Bologna Song, Jenny aka 867-5309, etc.) So, yeah, I’m enjoying my classes so far. Lol. And Fridays I don’t have class at all (so no, I’m not really jealous of you, Sara :P)! Which basically means I didn’t change out of my PJs until 5:00 pm. Don’t worry, that’s probably a one-time thing. I’m planning on using most Fridays as my opportunity to use open lab hours to study for Anatomy. Oh, and I’ve very tempted to just keep the biography Rachael made for me. It’s so awesome! Seeing as I’m having a hard time picking what would be the most ‘awesome’ for this week, I’ll just give a little list to go through, all a little science based: Spray on Clothing – it is what it implies. weird, but kinda cool Mind Reading/Recording – imagine eventually being able to record your dreams! So cool! Eyes - Stare at the red dot on the girl’s face for 30 seconds. Turn your eyes to the wall/roof/other plain surface. Blink rapidly. Oh, before I forget: Amber! We (meaning myself, Rachael, and maybe Sara) may get to see you next weekend! There's going to be a Fencing tournament at Vanderbilt next Saturday so you should come see us for a bit! Now, I’m off to actually do some studying! (where studying means watching Crashcourse on YouTube because one of its subjects it coincides awesomely with one of my classes and because the vlogbrothers host it.) - Jill |
