I'm quite excited to be returning back home for a lovely long Labor Day weekend! It'll be nice to see my extended family again, especially my relatives that love to get together this weekend. Perhaps I'll even get to see some of you? We shall see if things work out (I really mean it when I say it's a heavy-on-the-family-time weekend!)
Ok- question time. I fly Southwest fairly frequently, and I am a fan of their open seating, but my biggest question comes from their check-in system. I always make it a point to check in immediately... as apparently the rest of the world does as well. When I checked in for my flight, I was about 30 seconds late because of sleepiness, but somehow those 30 seconds were enough to delay me all the way to B20! So I board after 80 other people... 15 of those people are business select class, and another undistinguished number of people pay for an earlier boarding spot. Did ~65 other people really pay to check in early/wake up super early to check in?! Who knows.......
Time travel! It's now evening- a whopping 17 hours after I woke up this morning, and I'm still going strong! I've gotten to spend some great time with my mom, uncle, and aunt today, and I'd forgotten how nice it is when other people cook for you instead of the other way around! Don't get me wrong- my cooking skills have improved tremendously in the last month thanks to my re-aquaintance with the Food Network (I'm now making an entirely new dish every weekend! :D). Still, there's something quite wonderful about having others love and care for you that much to make you full meals, just because. :)
Also, as I alluded to in the last paragraph, I am slowly but surely becoming a Food Network watcher again... specifically, I wish I knew Alton Brown. He's such a great nerd. He would also be the best mad professor ever. I'm not sure why I get that impression, but I do, and he's fantastic.
The song of the week comes from a band I just got to see play live last night in Columbus! O.A.R. (Of a Revolution) was performing at the Fashion Meets Music Festival (FMMF) on one of the main stages, and I quite enjoyed seeing them live! Believe it or not, the best part of the performance was when they highlighted some of their main (or guest? I'm not sure) members' instrumental talents with small solos, and man can those guys play the sax!! O.A.R. is best known for their song "Shattered (Turn the Car Around)", which I have posted below! Enjoy this trip back to 2008!
Much love,
Amber
