This morning was lots of fun though! Every 3rd Saturday in May, my neighborhood holds a giant yard sale, so between 7am-1pm, it was mass chaos. I couldn’t bear the thought of waking up at 7, so I set my alarm for 8 and snoozed till 8:20. I am proud to say, however, that I was ready to go by 8:30… [Aside: Honestly, it sometimes takes me wayyyy too long to get ready in the morning. I credit it mostly to my hair, which takes between 2 and 3 hours to dry, depending on the season. People are used to seeing me with wet hair in class now. Nbd. :) ]
Anyway, I ended up driving to the ends of streets where there weren’t as many cars and simply walking up the street to all of the yard sales. I had so much fun yard sale hunting for my apartment! I purchased an entire bathroom set originally from Kohls (cups, toothbrush holder, soap dispensers, random jar), a copper frying pan, and a stainless pot and steamer for $1 simply because they were holding a “It’s 10:30. I’m exhausted, so anything you can fit in a Kroger bag is a $1” sale. =)) Plus, I purchased a really nice makeup mirror and the other matching toothbrush holder for $5 (I felt bad for taking them with the other sale), as well as new shower hooks for $2. So many deals! Yes, I’m probably much too excited about these home purchases, but I need to outfit my apartment somehow… I might be an Engineer, but I am still a broke college student! Lol. Plus, I’ll tell you a secret: I’ve been searching for a cute shower curtain for a week now and still haven’t found “The One.”
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of obsessed with my apartment. However, I’ve been looking forward to this since I discovered HGTV… which amounts to pretty much all of my life. As I mentioned before, I’m moving in in the middle of June and am terribly excited! My mom has finally decided I’m allowed to live there during my internship because my friend Hanna, who is currently doing a Maymester (summer class during May) in Spain (!), has agreed to live with me during the summer after she comes back! I’m going to have a roommate for the first time in over a year… Finally I might be able to wake up (I had so many issues this semester…)!
For anyone who I haven’t already told (I honestly can’t remember), my internship starts at the end of May, at which point I’ll move down to Nashville and live in the dorms for about 2 weeks before I can move into my apartment. It’s in Biomedical Informatics, and I’m technically doing “research,” but it really amounts to my translating their algorithm into a viable application via programming. I’m really excited for it to begin, but I am slightly concerned that the program may not be able to be completed within the allotted time simply because of its large scale. I will certainly do my best on it (I’m getting paid… yes!), but I am also nervous because no one else in my research team (which consists purely of faculty and Vandy Hospital people) knows how to program, so I’m on my own for the large majority of the project. Prayers would be greatly appreciated!!
Lastly, though certainly not the least important thing to note, tonight I skyped with Mark for about an hour before he leaves tomorrow afternoon for Bangladesh!!! He’ll be working with the LAMB project teaching in their school and shadowing some physicians in their hospital. He’ll be over there till the beginning of July, so although I will miss talking with him (and all of his wonderful Mark-ness… still working on an accurate description), we will still be able to send each other emails and stay in touch that way. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for a safe journey and a wonderful ministry in Bangladesh. =)
As I think I’ve kept Sara waiting long enough for this blog (props to her for always checking :) ), I’ll end this here. However, the song for the week is also a dance! This is Melanie and Marko from So You Think You Can Dance’s dance to “I Got You” by Leona Lewis, and it is the story of two friends becoming…more. It really is a beautiful number and a gorgeous song, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Until next week, my wonderful friends!
