Hello from the land between finals--two down and two to go! Can you believe I have a final on a Saturday?
I would like to say that I've been studying my butt off this past week, but I can't. No, this study week was mostly a messing-around-on-the-internet kind of week. I don't feel any more prepared for my finals after this study week than before it. I may actually feel LESS prepared because I had a week to forget what we covered. Have I mentioned how weird the education/grading system over here is really weird to me? It's almost impossible to get an A over here--by an 'A' I mean a 90% or above. The grading is all based on the bell curve, and that somehow means that a 65% could be a 'B' on one assignment, but a or a 'C' on another...I still don't understand it, so I've decided to ignore it and simply hope I pass my classes. (My confusion increased when my RA attempted to explain how my Physics class's grades worked--as long as I get a 50% on the final, I pass the class, and if I do poorly, they add my midterm points to my final, but the final is now worth 60% instead of 50%--or something....)
As you guys might have guessed from my post on Sara's wall, I have once again started watching the vlogbrothers. I am now through the first year of videos--yay!
After my finals are done, I'm going on a trip to Hobbiton. Too bad it's about 5 hours away by bus--do you guys have any book recommendations?
Kind of along the same lines, but not really, do you guys have any questions you would like to ask Ian McKellen? He had an open question segment during his show...so far I only have "How do you get into character?"
12 more days until I leave New Zealand...I wonder how fast it's going to go?
Back to studying Physics....maybe

Yuck. We talked about curve grading in one of my ed. classes. Pretty much it just means that your grade is based on how you do compared to the rest of the class. For example, the top 10% may get As, the next 10 % Bs, and so on. So if the highest grade in the class is a 65, that person gets and A. I really don't like it, though. Criterion-referenced grading (the kind most people use) is much more fair and sensical.
...sorry for the mini rant... i just really like getting an excuse to talk about stuff i learn in my teacher classes...

Yup. Completely understand what you're going through. Quite a few classes at Vandy are graded based on the curve, so since everyone's a genius there, you really have to work hard to get a good grade... let alone an A.
Also, Vandy puts finals on Saturdays as well. It's terrible. :( Good luck with all of your finals! We'll see you soon! =D
