You guys mostly already know that this was my first time in Florida. In fact, it was the farthest I have ever been from home (until our proper road trip this summer!). And it was awesome!!!!!
Seriously, I was never all that interested in going to the beach until I actually went. And then I got there, and it was basically the best thing ever. So today’s blog is going to be the top 7 reasons why the beach is the best and I want to go back.
7. The view
6. The sound
5. Sand
4. Seashells
guys. And now I have some of my own finds to add to my collection, and that’s pretty exciting :).
And I thought it was interesting to see just how integrated the seashells are with the sand sometimes. I guess over time they just get crashed into the sand so much by the waves that they break down into little pieces, so you can see little tiny bits of seashell mixed in with the
sand, especially as you get closer to the ocean. It’s a little bit sharp to walk on, but I thought it was cool.
3. Birds
And apparently it’s fun to run into a big flock and see them fly away, but I wouldn’t know. I’m not that mean (coughannabethcough).
2. Sandcastles
-The moat circling around the structure (I mean, there was no water in it, but it’s the thought that counts, right?)
-The drawbridge going over the moat (wasn’t really functioning, but it looked pretty cool)
-The wall surrounding the castle itself (a little bit short and prone to falling apart, particularly when I touched it, but we got it worked out eventually)
-The towers on the corners of the wall (kinda lumpy, but we did have limited resources, and anyway, I got them to stay put eventually)
-The gate set into the wall (which was partially the cause of the crumpling the walls, but again, we worked it out)
-The castle (was really just a shapeless lump, but I liked it anyway)
-The shell decorations (which I was happy to install, and I personally think were the best part of the design. Not that I’m biased or anything…)
-And no sandcastle would be complete without the foreign dictators who came to conquer us and force us into slavery to complete and protect the castle (if Jill and Rachael are good at anything, it’s telling us what to do)
-Followed, of course, by mutiny and the construction of a separate barricade to fight the oppressors (which looked a bit like Anna Beth digging her own grave, but that does at least fit in with the plot of Les Mis pretty well)
1. The waves
Forreal.
This was my absolute favorite part of the whole beach! When we went on Tuesday morning, it was kind of cloudy and the red flag was up, so we weren’t supposed to actually go swimming, but in my opinion, I don’t think swimming is really necessary. All we had to do was go stand by the edge and wait for the waves to crash into us. The water was a little cold, but it didn’t even matter. And then Anna Beth and I had lots of fun body boarding- we just waited for the really big waves to crash over us and carry us back up the beach. My knees got a little bit of extra “exfoliation” from the sand, but I would have stayed there playing in the waves all day if it hadn’t started raining.
So there you have it. My top seven reasons why the beach is the best and I want to go back. Unfortunately it looks like I’ll have to wait awhile, though. Now I’m back home and I have reality to deal with. Any by reality, I mean far more homework than I’d like to discuss. Eww. But Florida was so much fun, and you guys are the best, and now I’m more excited than ever about this summer!!!! Byyyyyeeeeezzzzzz!!!
Love,
Sara
